Activity: Pea Math

Do you have peas growing in your garden? Snap one in half length-wise and count how many peas are in each side. Which side has more? How many peas are there altogether? Can you divide up the peas so each side has an equal amount?

Next time you pick a pea, try to guess how many peas will be inside the pod. Is there a way to tell before opening it whether it will have many or just a few?

Pick a handful of peas and count how many are in each pod. Work together to figure out the average number of peas in a pod in your garden.

Practice counting to 100. Count out 10 small cups, and figure out how many peas should be in each cup to make 100 total. Using fresh or frozen peas, count 10 into each cup.
