September 19, 2018
I'm always sad to see summer go, but these waning days of September are honestly some of my favorites. The sunlight is softer, the intense heat subsides, and all our gardens enter a new stage of cool prosperity. Now that students are back in school, all of us here at Island Grown Schools are busy finishing our fall plantings, saving seeds, making plans to cover crop beds, and of course leading lessons and getting a whole lot of young hands dirty.
We have a lot in store for this year: new lessons, new collaborations, and lots of the cooking and gardening curriculum we can’t get enough of. Stay tuned for updates throughout the year on what we have going on.
And I know it’s late (I told you we were busy!), but we should also take a moment to celebrate September’s Harvest of the Month – Tomatoes. I don’t think any other crop could better symbolize the transition from summer to fall.
See you soon,
